The Currie Group, formally known as Donald and Richard Currie, has a long and proud history in the property market. In an unbroken chain, starting in the last years of the nineteenth century, through the following one-hundred years and now, well into the twenty-first century, the Group has been successfully operated and controlled by direct descendants of the founder of the original company.
Richard H. Currie, a businessman operating out of Johannesburg in the late nineteenth century, was captivated by the property industry - and fascinated by the business potential reflected in the explosive growth of Johannesburg in the last decades of the century.
He founded the company which, one-hundred and twenty-seven years after its launch in 1887, has become synonymous with integrity, dynamic success and innovative progress.
The current Chief Executive Officer, Richard William Currie, is the fifth generation family member to lead the company. Philip Trapps formerly with Liberty Properties fulfills the role of Chief Operating Officer.
The core business of the company has remained property related - but focus within the property market has shifted to spotlight areas of greatest returns for clients, in whichever sector of the market is most buoyant at any given time.
What really differentiates the company is its ability to read changing markets and anticipate trends. The senior staff have a ‘hands-on’ approach in that they all work at the coal-face of the industry.
The Group has four service divisions:
Sale of fixed property by public auction
The Group has handled the sale of fixed property by public auction and is proud of the heritage which stretches back to 1887, when the original Richard Currie conducted auction sales “between the chains” in Loveday street, opposite the Rand Club.
Some of the current residential projects in which the Currie Group are or have been involved in include, 44 On Banty (2013) - a 30 unit cluster development in Bryanston, The Vogue (2016) - a 53 unit apartment development in Rivonia, The Greys (2015) - a 12 unit cluster housing estate in Kensington B and The Winston (2016-2017) – 40 luxury apartments situated next to the Virgin Active in Bryanston.
In conjunction with its joint venture partners, the Group has also developed numerous industrial developments on the East Rand, including N12 Industrial Park, Hughes Industrial Park, Riverside Industrial Park, Northlake Industrial Park and Touchdown Industrial Park.
Gosforth Park Industrial node
The Group has also been appointed as the development manager on some of the major portions of land in the fast growing Gosforth Park Industrial node.
